2020 Report Launch – The Personal Costs of Weight Issues in Australia

                                    DOWNLOAD REPORT

“The Personal Costs of Weight Issues in Australia” highlights the perspectives of people who live with the challenges of overweight and obesity.  The purpose of the report is to help raise awareness, that living with obesity is not a result of a simple equation “eat less and move more”, nor a simple matter of lifestyle choices.   Obesity is complex, and in this report, we highlight just a few of the challenges specifically – weight stigma, navigating the health system,  and our environments. This report was developed during 2020 without any specific external grant funding.

We hope that everyone can learn something from this report and that key decision-makers and healthcare professionals take note of the recommendations to improve the lives of people affected by obesity.

We want to sincerely thank our WIN members and patients groups in obesity clinics who we consulted – especially those of you who were brave enough to come forward to talk about your issue. We also thank the many family members,  friends, and supporters that contributed their time and ideas over the year.

We extend a special thank you to the following clinical and public health professionals, for supporting WIN and for the contribution of  evidence-based and expert statements in the report:
